I wish to keep the 3 Silver Birch Trees In Birdcage Walk, Malmesbury because they are pretty, they are great with birds in them, they help to purify the air, and are in a conservation area. Besides which, they are in a green space I don't wish to lose. People who work in town like to sit near them to eat their lunch and enjoy the unobstructed view across to the Abbey opposite. Trees are a valuable addition to the world and deserve to live! If they are removed they may never be replaced. It is possible to remove a bit of the trees height and still preserve them. There is an idea circulating in Malmesbury to chop these 3 trees down to install a statue instead! Currently I am collecting residents signatures in a petition to try to save these trees. The statue could easily be placed elsewhere. I believe trees are for life not just for chopping down.
