Why this petition matters

Started by Alan Hines

The honours system seems to favour celebrities over people that are actually making a difference and driving change for the common man (and woman).

the latest honours list omitted a giant of a man that has pushed himself to incredible extremes to improve society. Speedo Mick through his foundation has raised more than  £800,000 to help disadvantaged people and the homeless.

Mick himself spent 10 years in desperate need of help, Entrenched in self-destructive behaviour, isolated from his family and society he took no responsibility and blamed everyone else. He was the homeless person in the doorway the addict and alcoholic, he even tried suicide. An intervention from a friend set him on the path to recovery and he has now been clean and sober for over 18 years.

Mick adopted a new way to give back and supporting others. He donned a pair of blue Speedos and a bathing cap and rain, wind or snow he turned up at football matches all over the country supporting his beloved Everton. Walking, dancing and joking he filled buckets full of donations. Fans from all clubs grew to know and love him for his fantastic warm, positivity and sense of fun. In February 2020 Mick and his Speedos took on one of their biggest challenges to walk from John O’Groats to Land’s End aiming to raise £250,000 a figure he smashed raising £304,000.

his work continues and In these days where so many have suffered economically, educationally and mentally the mission of The Speedo Mick Foundation couldn’t be more apt:

To provide support for young people through education, relieving poverty, or the support of mental or physical health.

Supporting the most vulnerable in our communities by showing compassion and understanding and to make what we do inclusive for all.  Making a positive impact to families, individuals and groups in those communities.

please support this campaign to reward a truly selfless man that has gone to incredible lengths to make a difference to the lives of others.
