Uganda parliament, enact the sugar Bill and save the sugar industry in Uganda

0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!

Farmers have embraced the sugar Bill by having their input especially on price of sugarcane and protection on the supply.

The sugar Bill has been on the shelves of parliament since 2010 and is now the reason why the industry has not been regulated.

The sugar industry is one of the stable growing businesses that can change the economic status of the people of this country in terms of job creation and service delivery through tax contributions.

The delay of passing the sugar Bill has contributed to many emerging sugar factories that have also contributed to food insecurity in especially Busoga sub region that holds over six factories.  The new factories have taken advantage of the existing infrastructure like roads, schools, hospitals that were set up by the pioneers in the sugar industry.  With no investment budget in the new factories, they have increased the price of cane and farmers have taken advantage of supplying to the new factories at the expense of growing food crops.

Busoga Civil Society Organization Network Coalition (BBUCNEC) is spearheading the petition to have the sugar Bill enacted.

When the sugar Bill is enacted:

1.  Farmers will have a voice and input and will be protected especially in price of cane and also assurance of the maifor their cane.

2.  The sugar factories will be regulated through the zoning and therefore competition for cane will be minimal.  The factories will operate at 100%

3.  The consumer will be protected from the escalating sugar prices.  The price of sugar will be regulated

4. This will save over thousands and thousands of beneficiaries like employees, business people, suppliers and all their families from being laid off from the industry due to shortage of production of the cane.

Please help BBUCNEC reach 20,000 signatories by signing this petition to save the sugar industry in Uganda.

BBUCNEC thanks you for the support.
