Richie Hatfield is the oldest still living Elder of Rossville, 94 year old. Many of us who came to Rossville 40 years ago were helped enormously by Richie, a well respected and loved member of the community who helped Rossville get established.
We now believe his home is under contract – this is without his knowledge or consent. There was no auction and no advertising that it was for sale. Richie has lived in that home for most of his long life and is desperate to return home.
Apparently it is under contract for $130K -150K, a ridiculously low price. It is on permanent deep fresh water with a bore, near the popular swimming hole with no crocodiles, 30 metres from the Hatfield Marketplace, and the Rossville Community Hall, and the bus stops, close to the Rossville School, and 30 minutes from Cooktown. Other properties in Rossville have been sold for much more, with the current demand due to Covid relocations.
He is in a care home at the moment, and fearful someone would sell his home and frantic to return. To sell his home without his knowledge or consent is outrageous.
The sale should be legally advertised and sold at a fair price rather than taking advantage of this much loved man.
