As we are coming out of lockdown and shops are allowed to open, zoos up and down the country are on the brink of going out of business, or in so much debt that it will take years to recover.

Zoos have some very rare and unique animals in their specialist care and a lot of the funding to look after them comes from visitors.

It seems odd that indoor shops like Ikea can open with social distancing but zoos which are outside in the open air remain closed.

We know the odds of getting the Virus are very low in open spaces, which is why parks are open...

So let’s get behind the zoos and stop them from going out of business and risking the lives of all the animals.

Please this is important not just for the zoos but also projects around the world reliant on the money from zoos to maintain and protect ecosystems.

With some small changes, zoos can open.
