U Khan started this petition to The Prime Minister Of Pakistan

To the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan:

We, the undersigned, represent the millions of Pakistanis who live, study, and work abroad, or did so in the past. We were heartened by your selection of several renowned economists to your economic advisory council. It promised a pro-meritocracy, anti-nepotism, anti-corruption Pakistan. We were proud of your government’s clear-minded stand when irrational demands arose to remove a council member on the basis of his faith.  It showed that in this new Pakistan ignorance and racism would be challenged.

Sadly, within a few days, in response to these baseless demands, the pre-eminent Pakistani economist of our times, Princeton Professor Atif Mian, was asked to resign.

The constitution of Pakistan, which you have sworn to uphold, bars discrimination on the basis of race and religion. The founder of our nation, Quaid-e-Azam, appointed an Ahmedi Pakistani as his foreign minister. Your decision violates Pakistan’s constitution and questions its founder’s actions. No Pakistani, no muslim, no human, should stand silent witness to it.

We therefore request that you stand up to ignorance and intolerance by re-inviting Professor Atif Mian to the EAC.

We have before us the example of Professors Asim Khawaja and Imran Rasul - two pre-eminent overseas Pakistanis who have voluntarily resigned from your Economic Council. By tolerating intolerance, your government risks losing the goodwill, resources, and support of millions of overseas Pakistanis. We represent ties to nearly every major corporation, university, and country that could benefit Pakistan today. We also represent the global philanthropic and investment capital, social and political influence, and business and academic expertise that Pakistan needs today.

We petition not to reprimand you for a decision you make today but to remind you of a vision you set 25 years ago. We stand not against the mission of Tehreek-e-Insaaf but with it. We ask you to do the same.

In asking you to re-invite Professor Mian, we do not ask you to choose between tradition and modernity or between religion and science.

We ask you to choose INSAAF for all Pakistanis.
