An open letter to the Right Honourable Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

Dear Mr. Trudeau,

Representatives of the United Nation have already proclaimed that Myanmar’s treatment of its Rohingya minority a “text book” ethnic cleansing.

By not taking action and not speaking out, Canada becomes an accomplice to the atrocity inflicted on the oppressed and, thus, has inadvertently pronounced allegiance with the murderers, emboldening them to continue to kill, rape, torture, and oppress behind the scene, and, in turn, allowing this culture of oppression permeate our global community and abandoning our fellow global citizens at the hands of mass murderers, bigots, and liars.

The leadership in Myanmar, although overtly expresses “concern” about the situation at home, has in fact blatantly turned a blind eye to the murdering and violating of Rohingya muslims for years.

Canada must not be the instrument to the perpetuation of such horrific acts.  Oppression and injustice is not what we, as a nation, stand for.  If we allow injustice and falsehood to continue to exist and permeate our global community, some day, it will reach our side of the world.

We earnestly request that Canada retract the Honorary Canadian Citizenship from Aung San Suu Kyi, and to exert Canada’s influence on not only the United Nation but on other global political platforms to demand that Myanmar admits the existence of systematic discrimination, persecution and genocide in their country, and to take swift, concrete, meaningful actions to halt such acts.

This is not the time for us to tip toe around questions raised in regard to the issue, but the time to advocate for the oppressed, for those who are without a voice and who need us the most at this dark hour of their lives.  As Albert Einstein once said, “The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it.”

We trust that you are a man of principles. Please do the right thing, Mr. Prime Minister.

Sincerely,

Your fellow Canadian.
