Lets get constitutional separation of Church and State in Australia

The current 'debate' on Gay Marriage exemplifies the continuing influence of religion in our national narrative.
We must vote for the complete and permanent separation of Church and State within the Constitution. There is no place for Halakha Law, Dhammasatth Law, Canon Law or Sharia Law in a pluralist state.
Religion should be free but is used as a wedge to divide what should be a united but varied people.
The current provisions of section 116 still allow the Commonwealth funding of Christian pastors in schools. Parliament is still opened with a Christian Prayer. The constitution invokes almighty God.
A religion is tax exempt. Why? A charity run by a church for poor children is fine but why is a tax exempt solid gold crucifix OK whilst the children starve.
Each state may invoke its own state religion under the Constitution. This must change.
We are no longer a Christian state any more than we are a Muslim, Hindu or Buddist state. We are one of the most Atheist countries on earth but are far behind the French in having a truly secular Government
