Mackenzie King started this petition to The President of Webster University

It has recently come to light that Webster University is planning on having in-person classes this Fall without offering a virtual option for those who are at higher risk if exposed to COVID-19.  They have made it clear that they will NOT be taking any preemptive measures to ensure a safe transition, like testing or quarantining, but they simply "urge everyone to exercise extra caution in the first two weeks."  While some safety measures are in place on campus, such as social distancing, face coverings, and the encouragement of frequent hand washing and disinfecting items and workspaces after use, these measures do little to nothing to encourage students to exercise caution off of campus.  Inevitably, there will be multiple positive cases of COVID on campus, and Webster has said little regarding what the university plans to do in response to these positive cases.  This is incredibly risky for students who are immunocompromised or have underlying health conditions already, and it seems they have only been given the choice of attending in-person class or not receiving a proper education.  It seems only fair to offer a virtual option for students who deem attending regular classes seriously detrimental to their well-being.  With the option in place, students will be able to decide how to attend class, whether it be in-person or online.  This way, it will be much more accommodating of everyone's opinion on how they feel the need to learn during this already unprecedented and challenging time.  A virtual option will make education safer for everyone involved and make it possible for everyone to receive it.
