Over the past few years, we've seen the industry claim state regulations are more than enough to protect communities but with every passing day, we are seeing more and more accidents. With strong federal safeguards, I will be better protected from the dangers of such a rogue industry.

Just recently, earthquakes in northeast Ohio prompted the delay of four waste water wells because of its possible link to hydraulic fracturing. With Pennsylvania not able to handle the capacity of waste water being produced, shipping it to Ohio, and well operators injecting the contaminated water in wells throughout West Virginia, it is causing earthquakes; it is clear the states cannot handle this alone and need your help.

I urge you to put hydraulic fracturing safeguards in place as soon as possible.

As we begin 2012 with a booming natural gas industry, we must prepare for more water contamination, more earthquakes and more industry lies.
