Atlantic Bluefin Tuna are a critically endangered species whose stocks have plummeted over the past 50 years to only a tiny fraction of their former numbers. Despite the strong likelihood of their imminent extinction with unsustainable fishing of this species, the United States Congress has refused to pass a ban to protect them. If nothing is changed the Atlantic Bluefin Tuna will disappear completely in the near future all for the profit of a few greedy individuals with no concern for the destruction of the entire population and who only care about large, short-term profits. It is time for serious action to be taken to give this species the time it needs to recover to sustainable levels and to impose a moratorium until scientists decide otherwise.
