Dear Mister President,

On October 31, 2012, the Philippine government closed the Philippine Embassy in Stockholm Sweden.

Suddenly thousands of Filipinos had no longer a  representation and were referred to the Philippine Embassy in Norway to handle the consular services  and need to travel over 700 km to receive certain services.

After one year  an honorary consulate was established, however only limited services to the Filipino community are provided. We are appealing to you to re- establish the Philippine Embassy in Stockholm Sweden.

We will ask for your decision to re open the Embassy for the establishment of political relations, trade  and for the welfare of approximately 12,000 Filipinos living in Sweden.

The opening of the Embassy of Sweden in the Philippines is an affirmation of the Philippines-Sweden bilateral relation and giving importance to the 22,000 Swedish who visits the Philippines every year.

We also ask the Philippine government  to give importance to Filipinos working and living in Sweden by having a proper representation.

Thank you very much Dear President.

It would be in the interest of the whole Filipino  Community in Sweden to re-open the Philippine Embassy in Stockholm.

If you agree, please leave a reply below with your full name as well as the reason why you want the Philippine Embassy in Stockholm to re-open.

On October 31, 2012, the Philippine government closed the Philippine Embassy in Stockholm Sweden.

The primary reason is the cost.

According to the DFA they put up embassies to other countries to stimulate trade and investment ,but the numbers are still the same and It's not cost effective anymore.

Before the closure , We, filipinos in Sweden  protested against it  and we wonder why Philippine Embassy in Stockholm is a target för closure because based on figures researched by Filcom,

For example ,2010 Trade RP exports to Sweden amounted to USD 146 million, compared to USD 36.7 million to Norway and USD 58.1 million to Denmark. Likewise, RP’s imports from Sweden amounted to nearly USD 147 million compared to USD 72 million and USD 116 million to Norway and Denmark, respectively.

In terms of global competitiveness, Sweden ranks 2nd in the world, Denmark ranks 9th and Norway - 14th (quoted source World Bank July 2011).

We don’t mean that the Phil embassy in Norway is less important than the Phil embassy in Sweden, but this makes us believe that the Phil embassy in Stockholm has a rightful reason to re open.

Geographically, Sweden is the centre in Scandinavia. It is therefore the place where Filipinos living in Scandinavia can conveniently travel to - either for social, cultural, none the least - for consular reasons.
