Over the four years I have been at Eastern Michigan, I have considered my experience to be fairly positive. However, there is one constant since I have been here that has made my blood boil…the undermining, and even blatant coverup, of sexual assault on this campus. From not even letting students know of these reports, to deliberately covering up dozens of incidents in college fraternities, to telling survivors that their accusations are not valid, President James Smith has done so little to shut down these things from happening that it is inexcusable for him to continue to be the president of a college campus. Sexual assault on college campuses is an epidemic.The goal of every college (hopefully) is that all college students feel safe and validated here. President Smith has failed to live up to that standard.
