There is a warm campaign going on, On social media where people from all parts of Afghanistan requesting the Afghan government to build a power Dam on Kunar river something they have been wanting for decades and was promised by the Afghan government on several occasions but no practical steps have been taken until now. 

• Kunar is a water-rich province, but its land lack irrigation water and residents live in dark for ages. People from Kunar suffer huge financial and human losses each year due to devastating floods. If dam built it will help to meet local electricity demand better in the Kunar.
  
  
• Survey has been done for two dams on Kunar river and all the documents had been completed. It’s said that the sites surveyed in Sagai and Asmar’s district Shal areas has the capacity to produce 300 megawatts and 796 megawatts of electricity respectively. All relevant survey documents for designs have already been sent to the Ministry of Water and Energy, but the ministry is yet to pay attention.
• Another survey which was done during Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan government and it had found that 1,000 megawatts of electricity could be generated at the Sara Taq area in Asmar district on the Kunar river, a major tributary of Kabul River contributing almost 13 million acres feet (MAF) annually to Pakistan.
• It’s an obvious truth that people of Kunar lacked electricity despite having a huge river. If this dam will be built it will not only have the capacity to produce power only for Kunar but to all other provinces of Afghanistan and would consequently resolve electricity problem throughout the country.

We now need hundred thousand of signatures for this particular petition to bring attention of the Afghan Government specially the Afghan President Dr Ashraf Ghani to practically begin working on power Dam in Kunar province. Please sign and share this petition so we all can reach our goal.
