The implementation of VAR within the Premier League has become an abomination. Teams are likely to be relegated because, having checked 17 cameras, a hair is out of offside. More importantly than that, supporters no longer feel they can celebrate a goal until a faceless technocrat has said it’s ok. This is not the football the premier league has become loved for. Whilst VAR has a place in our game, it’s implementation has become over engineered. Let’s move forward into the new decade by changing the rule so VAR can only rule on a clear and obvious offside. Yes, technically that means some offside goals will still be scored but fans would sign up to a degree of human error. Take that step now, make VAR fit for a new decade.
