Require alcoholic drinks processed using isinglass to be labelled as such
This petition had 185 supporters
Certain alcoholic drinks are processed using isinglass, which is an animal product.
At present no guidelines exist to require / recommend that labels of alcoholic drinks specify whether or not they use this reagent in production.
This petition aims to encourage the Portman Group - who are 'the responsibility body for drinks producers in the UK.', and whose members 'collectively account for more than half the UK alcohol market' - to mandate that alcoholic beverages produced by their members include on the label information as to whether they utilise isinglass.
According to the Vegan Society, there are now over half a million vegans in the UK, and many of them have a very difficult time identifying which alcohol is safe for them to drink, and which is not.
