Minimize Smoking in the Philippines

Smoking kills, and we all know that. It is not a secret nor a startling discovery that smoking causes a lot of health complications, most notably lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. According to the World Health Organization, 5 million people die yearly from tobacco-related illnesses, 600,000 of which are caused by secondhand smoke.
Just recently, President Rodrigo Duterte signed Executive Order 26, which prohibits smoking in public and enclosed areas across the country. Unfortunately, not much has changed even after implementing such laws. Despite the recent banning of smoking in public areas, it is still unhampered, as it requires constant patrolling and the skyrocketing of smokers' discipline.
However, not all hope is lost as there is still another way to combat this problem. We found out that increasing the prices of cigarettes by at least 10% will cause a decline in sales of these products, as proven by multiple researchers through multiple studies. Since we believe that this is a problem worthy of our attention, our group aims to propose a tax increase on cigarettes and make sure it will be approved; thus, minimizing the use of cigarettes.
We believe that this proposal is worthy of people's support since it will benefit the general public. Although seemingly unconventional, we are certain that this is a small step towards the right direction.
We will be creating a Facebook account, a Twitter account, a website, and a change.org petition in order to promote and spread awareness of our goal, which is to minimize smoking here in the Philippines.
