The CDC states, "Cavities (also known as caries or tooth decay) are one of the most common chronic diseases of childhood in the United States. Untreated cavities can cause pain and infections that may lead to problems with eating, speaking, playing, and learning. Children who have poor oral health often miss more school and receive lower grades than children who don’t." The fluoridation of water reduce cavities by 25% and is claimed as one of the top 10 greatest medical advancements in the 20th century. Why then are some counties not fluoridating their water supply? One of those counties is Weber county in Utah. Fluoridating water allows people of all economic statuses to maintain healthy teeth, even when they can't pay to go see a dentist. This will reduce the amount of cavities and increase the overall health of the public.
