The issue that I’m discussing here is the use of child labor and what can we do to help get justice for the children who are being suppressed by the owners of big companies. Child labor refers to work for children under the age of 18 that is mentally, physically, socially and morally dangerous or harmful and it disturbs their education. The children who are being forced to work often don’t get paid or even if they do, it’s very little and it doesn’t help them with anything. If these children refuse to work for whoever is in command of them then they receive threats of punishment or threats of anything that could hurt them. A lot of kids get injured, lose a hand or leg, or some even lose their lives. They are being treated very badly and they don’t get enough food to stay healthy. The people forcing them to work are mostly owners of big companies and industries. They make a lot of money but still they don’t treat those innocent children the right way.
          I choose this issue because the children who are being forced to work are our future and they will be the ones to make a change in the future. If they don’t get their education and they witness all the abuse and unfair actions of their owners then mostly likely they will do the same when they get the chance to be the owners of a company or industry. Another reason I chose this issue is because many of us are unaware of what’s the success behind all these companies. We only see what they show us on TV commercials but the actual hard work is done by the people who are being forced to work and they don’t get anything from the success of the work that they have put everything into.
          My goal is to get justice for the kids who have lost their freedom and give them the opportunity to live a free life like any other child would live. What I think we can do to stop those companies from forcing children to work for them is to boycott and not buy stuff from the companies that uses child labor but instead buy fair trade items. For example, Hershey’s uses child labor to get cocoa bean in order to make their chocolates. So instead of buying chocolates from Hershey’s, We should try and look for fair trade chocolates. Also, if we can’t boycott all the companies at once then at least we should boycott one company that uses child labor and spread awareness about the rest.
