Change the woman's dress codes in schools
Change the woman's dress codes in schools
Today June 7th, it was 93 degrees outside. With our masks on at all times; and the classrooms are poorly air-conditioned, it felt even hotter. Today on our daily announcements "girls" were told that shorts and tank tops are not allowed in school. They were told that if they were wearing any clothes of the sort, they will have to change into something else. They said they will be checking the classrooms to make sure nobody was wearing what they described.
The faculty member who came to check my classroom was a man. He walked around the room looking at all students from head to toe, when he walked behind the students he would check them from behind as well. Although I'm sure he meant no harm, it made me, a 13-year-old, very uncomfortable; other people said they felt the same way.
I understand that dress codes are to prevent any inappropriate clothing, but I feel the dress codes we have are unjust. When our arms are fully extended, they said that the "shorts" can be no shorter than our longest finger (almost right above knee level). Especially during this weather, I feel that these dress codes for girls are unreasonable.
I would like to request that this be changed to no higher than our palm. It's not a drastic difference, but will still let anybody feel a lot cooler during this weather. This will also benefit walkers such as myself, walking in the heat with longer pants won't help at all.
If by some chance our school does change the rules, I would also like to request that a female faculty member check students. I would feel a lot more comfortable with this, rather than a male!
Thank you for reading!
