Raise awareness for addicts who are hospitalized
This petition had 142 supporters
In our small city of Galesburg, Illinois, drug addicts who are hospitalized in one of the two hospitals we have are treated as a burden. Many can contest that there are more important health issues and other patients to tend to first in the ER, but when addicts ask for help, they turn to either being hospitalized, incarcerated or they relapse. There is no proper information and guidance for addicts who end up hospitalized in this city, people who have drugs in their system are mistreated by ER staff, doctors don't feel the need to treat them as actual patients. The understanding of what addiction is and how to reach sobriety is not given to addicts who end up hospitalized. They are given quick, non-professional assessments from Bridgeway, a poorly funded option for sobriety and rehabilitation. Bridgeway needs more funding, and addicts who end up in hospitalized can benefit more from transfer to mental health facilities such as Chicago Behavioral Health, and The Pavillon in Champagne IL. How can we as a community solve an epidemic when we release addicts right back into the streets they came from. If you believe in a better Galesburg, sign this petition to raise awareness for those who are do not ask for help, who do not know where to ask for help. Fund Bridgeway, gain awareness and save lives.
