The problem

Diwali is a festival of lights but in modern times it has become a festival of pollution, In literal terms. With there being a huge increase in firework demand for the past few years the has also been an increase in the production of these fireworks. The pollution released from these fireworks are harmful for both humans and the climate. During this Diwali November 4th 2021, there has been a 5 times increase in the amount of PM2.5 and PM10 in the air of the city Hyderabad and who knows how much it affected the rest of India.

The solution

The solution for this problem is rather simple but would require a lot of consideration and thought. The simple solution to stop or reduce the pollution produced in Diwali would be to ban any fireworks that would pollute by emitting harmful gasses in the air. This would be the job of the government stakeholders, but this is highly unlikely as the people would revolt or throw a fit. So if we want to have a chance at decreasing the pollution the people of Hyderabad and India have to make a conscious call to stop using polluting fireworks and only use green fireworks.
