Legally enforce cyclists to use the bike paths
There is a clear threat to drivers on the roads of Hilton Head Island, and it isn't tourists from Ohio. Drivers' lives are in danger every time they are forced to pass a cyclist who is biking on the road, which ironically is adjacent to the bike paths on Hilton Head. No driver should be forced into a situation where they must pass a biker going 15 mph on a two lane road when the biker could just utilize the bike paths that make up the entirety of Hilton Head Island. I mean really, this island was made for tourists to bike everywhere. This isn't Tour de France. Majority of cyclers on Hilton Head go slow enough to where they can easily manage the turns on the bike paths. I have nothing against cycling itself, I understand it is a great form of exercise. My issue is: if a car was going as slow as these cyclers do then it would be considered very dangerous because it practically forces other vehicles to pass you on a two lane road. My other issue is there are bike paths all over Hilton Head, use them! Obviously cyclers in somewhere like New Jersey could get away with it. There are no bike paths and cars tend to move slowly anyways due to significantly higher traffic congestion. But this is not a city, this is a beach town. Why am I putting myself in danger so this guy who picked up cycling after he retired can go 30 under the speed limit on his bike. Ridiculous! Please help me fight this evil and sign the petition.
