Emperor Minilik II, who has been described by many scholarly books and living eyewitnesses as the greatest slave entrepreneur in Africa. He sold and/or taxed the trade to pay for guns and ammunition to battle for control of the whole country. His colonization of the greater south started in 1889 when he killed thousands of Oromo, Kafa, Sidama, Somali, Walaiya, and other many tribes of the south who were living peacefully in their long occupied lands. This continued up until 1913 when he died of illness. Minilik used military mercenaries to kidnap kids from their family and brought them to the international slave market channels to sell them like castles or properties. One such occurrence was the history of a young Oromo child Bisho who was sold as a slave. Read about her on BBC. Through similar activities and killings, the number of Oromo and other nations was dramatically reduced. Minilik not only involved in the slave trade but also he and his military inhumanely cut breast of women and amputated arms off his Oromo subjects at Annolee and Calanqo areas of the Arsi zone Oromia. Please about this here on OPride. The Oromo and most of the Ethiopian people suffered under the rule of Minilik's inhuman administration. Today is not the day that we or anybody should watch such evil personalities and historical figures glorified by watching their erected statue. There is no single reason the people who suffered under his man's suppressive rule be walking or driving by his statue and angrily remembering his evil deeds. Minilik statue in Addis Ababa is sugar-coated by the victory of Adwa. While we accept the commemoration of the victory of Adwa as the colorful achievement of the Ethiopian people, that victory should not be blood-stained by the evil history of Miinilik on our people. Therefore, we ask the statue of Minilik to be immediately removed and replaced by a different statue that can clearly describe the victory of Adwa by the Ethiopian united force.
