A call for United Utilities to act on Cheadle Heath Wastewater Treatment Works

Residents in Cheadle Heath and Edgeley are experiencing increasingly unacceptable levels of odour from the sewage works. Despite numerous complaints, local Councillors and Council Officers meeting with UU and the various assurances given, the problems continue.
This petition is calling on UU to take action now to alleviate this public nuisance. We are also calling on Stockport Council to use whatever statutory powers it has to call UU to account over their management of this plant. Please show your support.
We believe the following five asks are essential to address this ongoing issue:
1) A provisional agreement to provide investment and resources to cover the settlement tanks on site. It can be done and the investment is needed.
2) Communication must be much better than it is now. Residents should be notified when there are problems on site or maintenance work is to be done.
3) We want regular monitoring for methane and hydrogen sulphide levels not just on site but in the residential areas within proximity of the site.
4) We want a sharper more responsive complaints system. Which responds to residents complaints and updates them on action being taken.
5) We want Stockport Council's Environmental Health officers and United Utilities to be in contact regularly about this matter, not just when there is a problem. And for SMBC to use the statutory enforcement powers available to them as a Local Authority.
