Working for hospitality has its perks, but as a woman, working in pubs/bars mean late finishes and in most cases, walking home. With a competitive job market, especially post pandemic, more women find themselves walking home with later shifts and may have to cover long distances. With rising street violence against women, I want to start a petition to provide free taxis/or for companies to pay for women’s taxis to get them home safely. I don’t see any other way around this. With regards to bar work, it wouldn’t be fair to give women solely earlier shifts, as it wouldn’t be fair to only employ men, but at least providing a free and safe service to ensure women get home safely will diminish the risk that their lives are put at. 
As someone who has picked up a recent pub job, I will be finishing as late as 4AM and having to walk over a mile home. As a student, this job is to have a low source of income to keep my head above water, therefore for me to pay for an Uber after each late shift will take a huge chunk out of my actual earnings. If I’m spending £40 - £70 on Uber’s each month, more than a phone bill, equivalent to energy bills, you can see why one might brave the walk home instead?
