Hey! I was thinking today and thought about how the word “Homophobia” is misleading and isn’t very representing of the LGBTQIA+. People who are homophobic are able to get away with homophobia by saying “I’m not afraid of gay people.” therefore implying that doesn’t mean they’re homophobic. I saw someone on TikTok say that we should change homophobia and transphobia to ism words, so that’s when I thought of the word “Orientism” with my friend James. Orientism would be more inclusive because not every sexuality is liking the same sex/gender and it would also include Gender orientations. The definition we have come up with is "Prejudice or discrimination against a person or persons affiliated with the LGBTQ+ community with harmful or malicious intent." We think this could be a large step for the LGBTQIA+ on inclusivity and being able to point acts of injustice and harassment.
