Why this petition matters

Started by Raha Medhat

Every year, millions of teachers across Ontario are required to pay a membership fee to the OCT in order to keep their membership. Over the past two years, the fee has increased by $50 per member. As we know, the OCT building is in a prestige and expensive neighbourhood in Toronto, meaning that the price of their mortgage must be expensive as well.

The purpose of this petition is to terminate the "Professionally Speaking" printed magazine that the OCT pays to produce, print and distribute to members on a quarterly basis. Inevitably this would save the college some money and would prevent our fees from going up any further. The magazine will continue to be available digitally.

Not to mention that the college has recently published a copy of the magazine that directly paints a negative image of educators all across the province. This is a lack of solidarity on their part and shows no support for educators in the province, especially during these hard times.

By signing this petition, you will be voicing your concern about money being unnecessarily spent by the Ontario College of Teachers.
