The dehumanization of any child is a travesty; the actions of the people who went on Twitter and called Oscar nominee Quvenzhane Wallis a CUNT did so willingly in an atmosphere of perceived acceptance that they could say anything they wanted. The word has no value or humor - especially when used as reference to a nine year old girl. When you consider they could have called Wallis a 'brat' or 'rotten kid' if they were attempting to be humorous, the lack of respect shown by The Onion can in no way be translated as bad judgment when that pejorative became the word of CHOICE. The names of the person or persons responsible should be made public and then they should be terminated from their positions. Being part of the media, these people know what words can do, so their responsibility levels should match their knowledge in being able to differentiate between humor and outright disrespect. The 'new journalism' translation of "if I/we have offended anyone, then here's the apology" is simply not enough. The power to defame should be matched by the responsibility to be respectful - especially to children.
