It's been 2 years since the explosion of BP's Deepwater Horizon and Congress has finally passed legslation to restore the environment and economies of the Gulf Coast. However, nothing has been done make drilling safer in the Gulf or to address the public health concerns of citizens of the Gulf.
Congress Must Act - Congress must take action now to implement the Oil Spill Commission recommendations.
Make BP pay – For violating the Clean Water Act, BP will pay fines that will now be sent to the Gulf Coast for ecosystem restoration. Make sure that BP pays the maximum penalty for it's negligence!
Community Engagement - Residents of the Gulf Coast have been left out of the recovery process at every level. Create meaningful public participation giving
community leaders a seat at the decision making table to oversee continued clean-up and restoration, including a Regional Citizen Advisory Council to oversee the future
of oil and gas activity in the Gulf.
Health Care Now - There is a growing health crisis on the Gulf Coast, where residents have been exposed to BP's crude oil and toxic dispersant. Residents of all walks of
life are falling ill, but don't have adequate health care and medical testing to treat chemical exposure. Bring proper testing and affordable, accessible health care to Gulf
Coast residents now. Create a Task Force to address the public health crisis in Gulf Coast communities.
Create a New Future for the Gulf - Create a sustainable and diverse economy allowing Gulf States to lead the nation in incentives and investment in renewable energy
