We are writing to ask that you address the continuing concerns of students regarding the problem of sexual violence and the process of reporting on the USC campus. We urge you to work with interested students and faculty to implement the following recommendations, with a progress report sent to students, faculty and interested parties by the end of Fall 2014:

1. Create a comprehensive sexual assault and harassment resource guide for students and first responders to publish and send to the USC community

2. Provide more transparency, information and support for students navigating the adjudication procedure

3. Clarify accountability process for perpetrators of sexual assault and harassment using scenarios that correlate with specific sanctions

4. Provide more transparency about how cases are collected and reported in the Annual Security Report required under the Clery Act, especially regarding geography requirements and reports not taken further than the Center for Women and Men or counseling services

5. Establish an anonymous reporting option for students who may not want to go through the full adjudication process with SJACs/DPS/LAPD but still want their case to be included in the University’s annual clery report

6. Create ongoing student surveys to provide continual assessment of the student experience in reporting and collect demographic data on sexual violence

7. Provide more transparency and information about how DPS is trained and screened for handling sexual violence cases

8. Update training programs to increase rape sensitivity and standardize procedure for sexual violence cases reported to DPS Officials, Resident Advisors and Health Center Staff and Doctors

9. Update USC’s Sexual Assault Policy to include an Amnesty Clause for students hesitant to report in fear of sanctions for alcohol or drug use

We the undersigned represent a wide body of students, student organizations, professors and community members who care deeply about this university and look forward to watching USC go beyond legal complaince and emerge as a true leader on this issue.
