Why this petition matters

I believe the unfair treatment of animals being euthanized is cruel. They didn't do anything to deserve this. Many citizens higher in power are working toward a no-putting-down future, but we can still make a difference! Many animals are killed in VA each year and many shelters are still "kill" shelters. An animal may be killed for various reasons, including the following one.

They have grown older and less attracting. Animals are killed because shelters believe no one will ever adopt them and they want room for more younger animals, that will likely be adopted. That's not right. Shelters should consider giving these animals to a foster home, or more "well known" animal adoption center, like an SPCA, where they would be able to find them a home, instead of killing them.

An animal can take up to a few weeks to find a forever home, or a few years, it's only a matter of time. In order to solve this problem we need to stand up when we see an animal mistreated and fight for their rights as creatures on this planet. In just VA, many animals are mistreated everyday. They are dropped off on the road, abused and many other cases. When a human finds them and is, unfortunately, unable to care for them, that animal is dropped off at a adoption center or a shelter. If that shelter is a "killing" shelter that animal will more than likely be killed, since it is more than likely "wild or feral." That animal lived it's short life in fear. That is NOT right. Putting an end to animals being euthanized will allow them to find a place to live and a offers a chance for a human to find a new family member. Take my new kitten, Snowball, for example. We were driving off my road one night, when that little guy ran on the road. My mom stopped the car and I went out to grab him. He hissed at me and was a bit feral, but now, he's the sweetest little thing. He loves to cuddle and play with you. If he had been dropped of at a kill shelter, he would be dead right now, since he was feral at first. You just need to give them a chance before ending their lives. Coming together as citizens of this state, uniting to help save lives, is how WE make a impact in the way pets are mistreated.
