I signed because I dont think bridges should be named after politicians, especially ones that have a creep for a son like Andrew. Everyone I know calls it the Tappan Zee bridge. Lets put the original name back up. Its the right thing to do. Let the Coumo name be consigned to the dustbin of history where it belongs.

I only signed because I wanted to express my opinion of you and your petition, which is nothing more than visiting the sins of the son on the father. In case you forgot, Mario Cuomo was the most brilliant, eloquent voice for American liberalism for the better course of a decade, and now you want to punish him for what his son did after he died. I used to think "cancel culture" was some nonsensical right-wing talking point, but now I see change.org and the left you represent both are as stupid and offensive as the right makes you out to be. Now I fully understand why progressives like myself hate you as passionately as we do: you earned our complete and utter antipathy. Shove your petition where the moon don't shine.

Rather people driving over bridge to Google Tappen Zee instead of Mario Cuomo.

That name was given when it had no right to be given.

The bridge wasn't a vanity project, it is a public work. Andrew Cuomo's sick ego demanded he memorialize his DNA not the people of the state of NY. Tappan Zee is a cool name, so let's get it back!

Tappan Zee is a combination of Lenape and Dutch and I think it's important to keep any Indigenous names that we still have in the area. Also the prevailing sentiment seems to unanimously be that people love the name Tappan Zee. The spot in the Hudson where it is situated is uncontested as the most beautiful natural feature of the area for folks on both sides of the river and honoring and treasuring the beauty of that view is important. The Lenape term "Tuphanne", meaning cold water, paired with Dutch 'zee' meaning sea, is not only the perfect name for the Bridge, it IS the name of the bridge. It's still the Tappan Zee Bridge. It would be great if the signage and official name would reflect that.

I don’t know anyone who refers to this bridge as anything other than “Tappan Zee”! It’s long overdue that the name is restored. Especially considering how tarnished and disgraceful that other name has become.
