The Indian lawyer Deepika Singh Rajawat who is fighting for justice to the family of an eight-year-old victim of rape and murder deserves Nobel Peace Prize. Asifa Bano, a Muslim nomad girl was abducted, detained, sedated and gang raped before being killed in January, 2018 by the Hindu extremists in Indian administered Kashmir. The perpetrators of the crime wanted to instil fear in the minds of Muslims and force them to flee the Kathua region of the state. Deepika Singh Rajawat stepped forward to take up the case and continues to fight for justice in the face of threats and intimidations from people in power. Her efforts need to be recognized and appreciated internationally as India has been found to be the most dangerous place for women by Thompson Reuters Foundation. This also becomes important in the light of the fact that Deepika being a practicing Hindu chose to stand up for a Muslim family when the Indian society has become heavily polarized under a right wing Hindu nationalist government. By doing so, she has set a very good example and proved herself as a true defender of secularism.
