Swinburne Sarawak started this petition to The General Public

According to the Malaysian Study on Cancer Survival 2018, the five-year relative survival rate for lung cancer across all stages is 11%, one of the worst performing of all types of cancers.  It is the most common cancer death in Malaysia men and second most lethal cancer in Malaysia after breast cancer. Lung cancer amounts to 4,088 deaths every year in Malaysia and the number is rising.  Smoking and inhaling second-hand smoke are identified as the most common risk factors of developing lung cancer.  92% of the patients diagnosed of lung cancer are smokers.

This “No Smoking Pledge” is part of the Lung Cancer Awareness Program 2019 organised by Swinburne Sarawak and the Society of Cancer Advocacy and Awareness Kuching. It is aimed to encourage general public in Malaysia to stop smoking and say no to secondhand smoke in an attempt to reduce lung cancer cases.  We urge you to sign this pledge for the health of yourself and also for your loved one.

  • I promise to not smoke or use any tobacco products.
  • In addition, I will always try to stay away from secondhand smoke, which is a danger to my health.
  • I will do my best to encourage people who do smoke or use tobacco product to quit smoking and stop using tobacco products, and will do my best to support them as they try to quit.

It is never too late to quit smoking and be an agent of change for others!  Say no to smoking!
