This is a petition that requires urgent action. As you are probably aware, sickle cell anaemia is the commonest genetic disorder in the world and is most prevalent in Nigeria. Nigeria by virtue of her population has the greatest number of affected persons. 1in4 has the sickle cell traite. In other wwords not less than 40 million Nigerians are healthy carriers of the sickle cell trait and over 150.000 Nigerian children are born with full blown sickle cell anaemia annually. This is by far the largest burden of the disorder any where in the world. We want to see an end to misinformation, stigmatisation, pain and penury, discrimination ,injustice against SCD patients in public hospitals and clinics across the nation even while in pain. For years those living the disorder and their families have been encouraged to endure pain, to be patient in the face of injustice, to be silent even when they are in pain, to endure,. Out of fear of repercssion we have learned to smile, to accept stigmatisation and ignore cruelty by the society. For some within the sickle cell community we have tried to wait out the crises, to stay home in intense pain and penury. We put our lives in the balance and on the line, weighing the pain of this disease against the hurt and humiliation of being treated with disregard and disrespect. We have been told to hold on to hope for a cure. Unfortunately the present cure is not affordable to the majority. We have been told to hold our peace, to hold our tongues.ENOUGH IS ENOUGH . Now we are HOLDING those whose responsibility it is to cater for our health needs responsible. Remember "Individually we are ONE drop. Together we are an OCEAN -- Ryunosuke Satoro. "Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane "---/Martin Luther King. We are taking our stand. We have and need the SIGNATURES of all WARRIORS AND STAKEHOLDERS and those who love justice on this statement of ACTION. This is a national powered initiatve to address the ongoing issue of our poor treatment in public hospitals. We shall be hosting a press conference on a day to be announced. Join us as we unite to create sustainable change for ourselves and our children. To join the initiatve Call/WhatsApp 08033498555,08053447361,07069000283
