William Porter started this petition to The New School Administration

The Covid-19 virus has obviously affected us in many ways. We are all adjusting the best we can to this life changing event. Colleges and universities especially. Almost all schools have closed for the remainder of the semester. This was a necessary step to protect students, staff and their families. What cannot be tolerated however, is universities refusing to refund students tuition.
Colleges like The New School, University of Southern California and University of San Diego have refused to refund tuition claiming that "the campus remains operational with virtual and other alternative learning methods.”  Students do not pay tuition for college credits alone. They pay for the experience to be on campus, the location of the college, and for the use of college facilities.
At this point some students are paying $33,000 in tuition for a semester of online classes in their childhood home. This is inexcusable. To be fair, University of San Diego offered a refund of 60 percent to all students who withdrew before March 20th. Most colleges did not follow this example. If students decided to withdraw after campuses were closed most universities would offer no refund. This is an insult to college students everywhere.
To combat this, continuing college students need to hurt the colleges financially. We need to refuse to sign up in the fall until colleges give us at least a 35% refund for this semester. This is what we deserve and demand.
