Scuba Divers going in and out of the waters off the beaches in Rockport, Massachusetts have been as common a sight as swimmers, boaters and sunbathers for many decades. Generations of adventurous men and women have enjoyed the fascinating world under the waves off Back Beach, Pebble, Old Garden and other beaches in the Town of Rockport. It has been a wonderful spot for beginners and experienced divers alike to fall in love with the sport of scuba diving. We have enjoyed not only the Rockport waters, but we have had amazing meals in your restaurants, strolled down Bear Skin Neck, stopping for ice cream, taffy or to pick up a live lobster to take home since maybe our hunt for them during our dive didn’t go very well. We have felt like Rockport has not just been a place for us to enjoy a sport we are so very passionate about, but it is a place that feels like a home away from home, comfortable and welcoming. The New England Scuba Diving Community is asking Rockport Residents for a show of support through the signing of this petition to demonstrate to the Board of Selectman and other Town Officials that a majority of residents of Rockport fully support scuba diving off their town beaches. For many of us, scuba diving is not just a seasonal sport, it is a way of life, what fuels our fire and what defines who we are. Please help us continue to enjoy the thing that we are so very passionate about off the beaches of Rockport.
