We did it!

Sep 27, 2019 —

What an absolute whirlwind of a week.

On Monday we realised the National Poetry Library were bringing in their new paid membership, over four days we have had over 1500 people sign this petition to stop it and amazingly, yesterday, The National Poetry Library decided to suspend the planned scheme and host workshops with the poetry community to discuss how best to support the library.

WE DID IT!

In the next week we shall be visiting the Poetry Library to discuss open workshop days where people of all ages and incomes can join the discussion, I am hopeful that together we can solve this funding issue without effecting the accessibility of the library.

Now is the time for celebration.

This victory is testament to the power of people coming together and it is also a reflection of our love for this great poetry establishment, the people that run it and all that it represents for arts and culture in the capital. I am so proud to have been a part of this and I am so happy that they listened!

I couldn't have done it without the support and love from Fiona Moore who has been instrumental in pulling this together.

Finally, THANK YOU to all of you. We are the people! We spoke and together we can make anything happen.
