Thomas More College’s mission states that it is a “Catholic liberal arts institution that will equip you to engage the world with integrity for your whole life.” Since, Mr. David Armstrong J.D. assumed the role of President of the College on July 1, 2013, integrity has been severely lacking from the office of the Administration.
Upon assuming leadership, Mr. Armstrong immediately began a trend of unnecessary and irresponsible spending including the initiation of a marching band at a division three school. He spent funds painting curbs and performing other non-essential beautification. Mr. Armstrong then continued his “spending spree” by adding a lacrosse team. During his first year alone Mr. Armstrong adding 8 new full-time employees which included 2 to support the marching band, 3 in institutional advancement, 1 for Athletic Training, 1 for lacrosse, and 1 executive director in enrollment.
During this time academic programs were neglected and essential courses were cut causing students to experience delays in their expected graduation dates.
As enrollment dropped, Mr. Armstrong attempted to recover funds by charging students a barrage of fees such as book fees, spirit fees, and laundry fees.
Despite the college receiving a $4 million grant in June 2014, Mr. Armstrong terminated multiple long term employees, including extensive cuts to the student life division.
Thomas More College must be led by an individual who values academic excellence, fiscal responsibility, and integrity. Additionally, the college must be led by an individual who consistently makes decisions that are in the best interest of the institution. Therefore, as alumni, current students, and other interested parties, we now invoke the Board of Trustees for Thomas More College to remove Mr. David Armstrong from his role as President of Thomas More College.
