Students of Royal Global University started this petition to Himanta Biswa Sarma (Chief Minister of Assam) and

Respected RGU officials,

We, the students of Royal Global University, are registering our protest against the newly laid out SOPs for the forthcoming examinations.

This is a testing time for all of us. The pandemic has not been easy to grapple with --- both mentally and physically. We are still mourning the passing of our loved ones; and some of us are still recovering from it. The decision to conduct examinations by the university at a time like this when universities around the globe are taking a much humane approach to conduct examinations is downright lamentable, and it further shows utter indifference on the part of the university to its students enrolled in various disciplines vis-a-vis their mental well-being and academic preparations for that matter.

The SPOs by the university at a time like this are proving out to be too stringent in nature, as well as riddled with flaws.

Going by the list of SPOs, the students will be allowed 2:3hr for writing the paper and the remaining 30 minutes are reserved for other activities. We strongly object to this on two most important grounds ---- a) good internet coverage is still a luxury for us and b) most of our phones are budget-friendly and not equipped to handle a 3hr session on Zoom or any other platforms in one starch.

Another SPO is: the stipulated timing to upload our respective submission is a mere 10 minutes. We categorically object to it as we faced a lot of issues ---- ranging from internet connectivity to mobile glitches --- in uploading our submissions within the stipulated time frame.

Moreover, as per the UGC guidelines, it is imperative for the universities to promote the students of intermediate semesters based on internal evaluations. And, every other university in Assam is acting on it. Royal Global University, however, is adamant on conducting the examinations which is an anomaly. The University even has the complete discretion to even cancel the examinations but we are not demanding that as examinations are important for us as well.

However, we strongly protest the mode of the examinations along with the SOPs. We do not and will not agree to them as the SOPs, if anything, are prima facie arbitrary and devoid of a humane approach.

In sum, we demand two things from the administration:

a) the mode of the examination be changed to open book, regardless of semesters

b) the duration for the examinations be increased and marks for the subject be considerably decreased.

Yours sincerely,
