Cut funding to the Trinidad and Tobago Gymnastics Federation NOW

This petition had 3,211 supporters

In light of the abrupt and unfair actions taken by the Trinidad and Tobago Gymnastics Federation (TTGF) to block Thema Williams from representing Trinidad and Tobago at the Olympic qualifying event, we the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago demand that this organisation be defunded until they can show themselves to be an organisation worthy of receiving our tax dollars. Today's (April 16, 2016) actions come as only the latest in a months long campaign to ruin one of our elite athletes and kill her Olympic dreams as well as our national Olympic aspirations for unknown reasons. With hours to go before the competition, the TTGF disqualified Thema and are attempting to replace her with another athlete, Marisa Dick. This action is not only unfair to Thema Williams but also to Ms Dick who will have to compete mere hours after flying to Brazil. How can she compete to her best ability while suffering from jet lag? What would be her state of mind when she thinks about how she usurped Ms. Williams place in the competition? While we understand that the Government of Trinidad and Tobago cannot directly interfere in the running of sporting organisations, there are still ways of expressing dissatisfaction with the way these organisations are run. This includes defunding rogue organisations such as the TTGF. Therefore, until such time that the current executive of the TTGF demits office and is democratically replaced with a new board that is committed to putting ALL athletes first and treating all stakeholders fairly with dignity and respect, we the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago demand that they no longer receive State Funding.
