Increased Garda Resources for the DMR South Division
0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!
There is a crime crisis in our community - serious crime is up 22% from 2005 to end of the year 2016 in the DMR South Division, which includes Tallaght, Rathfarnham, Firhouse, Terenure, Crumlin & Sundrive Road.
Yet the actual number of Gardai on the streets are down – with each individual Garda investigating 25% more crimes then they did in 2005.
As Chairperson of the Joint Policing Committee, I hear reports from Neighbourhood Watch Groups and Residents Associations, the fear that because of the savage cuts to frontline services, there is a normalisation of criminal activity within our communities, with local groups reporting open drug dealing outside schools and in housing estates – throughout the County.
There is a real fear that because of the cuts, criminals feel they have free reign to carry on, doing what they like and no-one will challenge them.
In Tallaght, Communities complain about lack of response from Gardai to crimes such as joyriding and anti-social behaviour and this has been linked directly to the cut in Community Gardai – with many not even bothering to report crimes to the Gardai anymore.
In Rathfarnham, the eighth busiest station in the country, numbers are down to just five Gardai.
Communities feel powerless but there is something you can do to make a stand - please sign our petition to get additional Garda resources for our area and make a difference to your community.
