Navan Hospital is the most important piece of infrastructure in our county. Thousands of people are alive and well in our county today due to the treatment that they received there.

However we are at a critical juncture with regards Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan. The HSE and the Government have clearly stated that they seek to downgrade our hospital from a Level 3 hospital to a Level 2 hospital. This means the loss of our 24/7 A&E. It goes without saying that this would be a disaster.

A letter from the HSE seeking the closure of our A&E has sat on the Minister for Health's desk for the last 2 years. Immediately after the recent election the process of closure started. The HSE ended the treatment of Stroke Patients on the 24th of February and had planned to remove over night governance from the A&E from the 1st of March. 

We the Save Navan Hospital Campaign reacted quickly and held a series of public meetings. Meath County Council has passed a motion demanding the protection of our A&E. I as Chair of the Save Navan Hospital Campaign have met with senior HSE management and have outlined clearly that we will not tolerate any reduction in services at our hospital. We demand further investment at our hospital to ensure that all treatment is of the highest and safest standard. We also have full confidence in the staff at our hospital.

The removal of overnight governance at the hospital has been postponed until the 1st of April. However this not good enough. We need a commitment from the HSE and all political parties that the A&E will not close but will be strengthened.  

We will now build towards a series of mass public rallies in County Meath to show the government and the HSE the strength of our intent. The Save Navan Hospital Campaign is a cross community, cross party campaign. We encourage every one to work together. We need your help to fight this critical battle for our hospital.
