Give our students a chance. Reform the Art History Exam, it's archaic and disconnected.

The Art History Syllabus is not only archaic it is completely disconnected to the practical practice of LC Art. The course content is far too extensive for the allocated time frame and not only deters students taking up art for the leaving Certificate it gives students that do an unfair disadvantage with statistics showing only 1.2% of LC students nationwide received an H1 in 2017. A large number of A-level students in their practical component drop 1 to 2 grades as a result of the History of Art Exam. Let our students shine for their talents, not disable them because they may struggle to rote learn information completely disconnected from the practical curriculum. Make Art equal to all other practical subjects, examine our students on theory, technique, skill and creativity. Incorporate Art History to coincide with the practice of Art, make it more meaningful and relevant for students as they build a portfolio for further education. Art has been pegged by educationalists as one of the most important subjects to build 21st Century skills, give our students a chance.
