Last year special-needs teacher Christie Wilt and the teacher's aide Kelly Chaffins were videotaped by a fourteen-year-old student in the classroom making comments about her weight, her intellect, and bullying her. When faced with a lawsuit, The Miami Trace Local School District settled for $300,000, asked Chaffins to resign, and allowed Wilt to remain as a teacher citing that her involvement wasn't enough to warrant resignation.
Any teacher who is in a classroom and doesn't stand up and stop bullying has done enough to be fired. We can not expect our children to stop bullying if teachers are not only allowing it be done by other adults, but are participating in it as well. These people should not be teachers.
