For years now I have been trying to get the council to build a pound in Pissouri as the problem with stray dogs found in the boundries of the village is getting worse. For the last 2 years I have taken 47 dogs from the village. By law the council is OBLIGED to have facilities for holding the dogs that are found roaming. Yet for 3 years now they refuse to take any actions whatsoever. They declared that they are against it and won't build permanent holding facilities but are willing to make 2 temporary cages for the dogs to be left in for 1-2 days until they are moved to a shelter. Only goes to show how little they all know about the "stray situation" on the island. And what they propose is illegal and doesn't meet the required standards. 

I myself have said that I will run the pound on VOLUNTARY basis as long as they commit at what by law is required from them - the care of the dog for the first 15 days. 

Year after year the Council refuses to meet their legal obbligation of creating holding facilities despite the numerous times the subject has been raised. Therefore that is considered lack of fulfillment of their work duties. This is the next step to push for action from their side. Should they fail to do so again then a report to a higher instance will be submitted with proof showing for how long they have been avoiding the subject.
