Between the periods of 2013 to 2018 Bolton Council of Mosques has been paid £619,848 in grant funding by Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council through 'Corporate Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector Funding'. Religious institutions are exempt from paying tax and should therefore not be entitled to grant funding due to their zero contribution towards the tax budget, this funding benefits only those who follow that faith and is an act of discrimination in the exclusion of non-believers who will not benefit from this grant funding.

In a recent poll carried out on ‘Bolton Clowncil’ a Bolton based political page that encourages local residents to engage with politics and emphasizes the importance of voting. The poll showed that out of 396 people who voted, 96% do not believe that tax payers money should be used to provide grants and funding to religious organizations.

There are four religious based organizations who's primary goal is to promote their faith; 'Bolton Council of Mosques', ‘Bolton Interfaith Council’, ‘Bolton Christian Community Cohesion’ and ‘Bolton Hindu Forum’ these four organizations represent the chosen majority 'faith' organizations by Bolton Council. These organizations have been granted substantial funding from the local authority but Bolton Council Of Mosques has been treated more equal than the others by being given substantially more funding than it's closest comparative organization. Despite the Christian population in Bolton being 173,608 and the muslim population in Bolton being 32,385 the authority have awarded 3.11 tmes more funding to a minority religion, in doing so the authority has been brought into disrepute.

We the public are asking that Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council cease all grant funding payments made to faith organizations who's primary goal is to promote their faith. As not only constituents of Bolton but those from the UK and even those based around the world who have friends, family or connections to Bolton, we hope you carefully consider the damage such grant funding is causing towards the publics trust in the financial management of the local authority and how such unequal payments made to certain faith organizations can cause division and resentment against religious communities caused by your actions.
