Please help us by saying No to tree removal by Monash Council
Monash Council is implementing a policy to rip out perfectly safe and currently healthy trees, including beautiful canopy & native trees, which are along every nature strip. These canopy evergreens and natives will be replaced with, as an example in Essex Rd Mt Waverley, seedling small deciduous crepe myrtle. The plan does not make sense. The removal of the current established trees, which are the home to numerous wildlife and have numerous environmental benefits, and replacing them with deciduous trees and seedlings that offer no canopy and offer no home to native wildlife. This appalling strategy has been passed and will affect almost all streets in Monash. It will have a devastating effect on wildlife and climate issues. Monash is known for being the home to many native animals. The plan has not been publicized and Monash appear to be taking a street by street approach, rolling out in different areas. It has just started to roll this out with an initial 11 streets which are too far away from each other for the residents to have realised & coordinated unified action. Glen Tower Drive Glen Waverley was first and scheduled to have over 120 trees removed. The street residents tied red ribbons around the trees and after consultation and protest managed to get removal reduced from 120 to 4 trees. Please help us by Saying No To Tree Removal from the verges in Monash. We need to stop this happening throughout the council as street by street protest will fail eventually. We are aiming for 10000 signatures so a big effort please.
