No Protests at Marylhurst's 2018 Commencement

It has been proposed that demonstrations - either resisting Marylhurst's closure or demanding a teachout - take place during the final commencement ceremony on June 17th, 2018. These demonstrations (which some interpret to be protests) would take place on the Marylhurst campus or Highway 43 before, during, or after the commencement ceremony.

A group of students who are graduating on June 17th respectfully request that the ceremony be allowed to proceed without the presence of protesters, signs, or individuals present with the sole intent to express their opinion about the school's closure announcement. These students have achieved their degrees despite insurmountable odds, with increasing strain and loss during spring term. They should be permitted to celebrate this achievement with support from the entire Marylhurst community, without fear of displays of protest marring their commencement memories.

Please stand in support of the 2018 graduating class and let June 17th be a day free of protest demonstrations.
